Delhi history begins with the creation of Indraprastha by the Pandavas and the makeover of this inhospitable gift of the Kauravas into a relaxing heaven. Delhi was the focal point for the first war of independence in 1857 and since then it became a spine in the eyes of the British. Delhi has been the hub of activities not only in the ancient period but also in the medieval period. Britishers too shifted their capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Azad Hind Fauz’s ultimate aim during freedom struggle was to capture Delhi and established Swaraj. |
